As an organization, Birthwise denounces the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and countless others, named and unnamed who have been murdered or suffered violence as a result of the deeply embedded racism that exists in this country.

We acknowledge that our work to educate midwives is not separate, and not exempt, from the institutional & structural racism upon which the US was founded. These same insidious roots that manifest so clearly in acts of police brutality, exist in the foundations of our work in training midwives.

We recognize that these same racist structures pervade US healthcare systems, disproportionately impacting Black pregnant people, leading to appallingly high maternal, infant & perinatal mortality rates in the Black community.

We support the work & experience of our Black students, faculty & community members. We acknowledge the white-ness of our organization & the CPM credential, & commit to further center and amplify the work of BIPOC birth workers & educators in our communities. Further we commit to continuing our work to decolonize Birthwise as an institution of higher education.

In Solidarity,

Birthwise Midwifery School
