Birthwise warmly welcomes international students in its programs. All applicants, including international applicants, must be fluent in English.

Canadian Applicants

Midwives cannot become registered to practice anywhere in Canada unless they graduate from one of the 4-year degree midwifery programs located in Canada or graduate from one of the two bridging programs for foreign-trained midwives.

All Canadian provinces require that foreign-trained midwives complete one of the two bridging programs offered in Canada:

Many Birthwise alum have been successful in becoming registered in Canada through the bridging programs, although the eligibility requirements for these programs change from time to time. If you are a Canadian citizen hoping to attend Birthwise Midwifery School and then return to Canada to practice as a registered midwife, use the links above to see the registration requirements for foreign-trained midwives in your province.

International Applicants

International applicants can seek counseling throughout the admissions process from our Student Exchange and Visitor Information Advisor, Elizabeth McKinnon. She’s here to help you navigate the visa process and succeed in our programs.
