Birthwise offers an accredited three-year certificate program arranged in two unique ways. Students can earn their certificate either through the Campus Program arranged on a more traditional academic calendar, or the Community Program based on a low-residency model that allows students to remain in their home communities.
Birthwise offers an 18-month certificate program for students interested in assisting practicing midwives with birth work. This low-residency program also focuses on marketable skills such as placental encapsulation, belly casting, and preconception and childbirth education.
In conjunction with Birthing Gently, Birthwise offers a DONA-certified, two-day birth doula workshop for aspiring birth doulas. The course teaches participants the necessary skills to care for mothers in labor. Those who complete the workshop can begin attending births (the next step to certification). In addition, students can further their doula education in a one-day postpartum doula intensive.
Birthwise offers a range of continuing education courses for midwives, midwifery students, and interested community members. These classes, taught by the Birthwise faculty and guest instructors, vary in topic and change every semester.
