Birthwise Midwifery School is a three-year school founded in Bridgton, Maine in 1994. Built on the principles of female empowerment, natural birth, and skilled professionalism, it offers one of the first comprehensive training programs for direct-entry midwives in the United States. The program is accredited by the Midwifery Education Accreditation Council and licensed by the Maine Department of Education.

Doula Training

The DONA International Birth Doula Workshop is a sixteen-hour workshop that introduces students to the knowledge and skills of the professional birth doula.

Midwifery Program and Midwifery Assistant Program Admissions Deadline

Date: April 15, 2017

This program consists of two years of rigorous academic study in Bridgton, Maine, followed by a year long clinical with an off-site preceptor of the student’s choosing.

The Birth House

Birthwise’s freestanding birth center and free community clinic

Together, staff midwives and Birthwise Midwifery School students run The Birth House, an on-site clinic that offers free Well Woman and reproductive health services to the community’s women. Students may also assist women giving birth at the freestanding birth center.

The Birth House services include:
